What is pressing in upon you right now? What is stressing you out?
Read Psalm 27
This psalm begins:
The Lord is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?
This passage is why I want to pray the psalms daily. Its why I need to pause throughout my day and sit in silence. Its why I invested in Phyllis Tickle’s Divine Hours books and downloaded The Book of Common Prayer app. I need reminded of this.
It is reassuring to remember that whatever challenges or stresses we face – GOD IS BIGGER!
In the midst of your stressful days, keep focused on God. This is how the Psalm ends:
13 I remain confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.
14 Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord.
We are all living our life with some aim. There is some thing which we center on, some idea or principle that we organize everything else around. Even our friends who may not be able to articulate it, everyone has one.
I believe if ours is Jesus, then we’ll persevere!
**I recently began sending the students in CSF a brief reflection on a Psalm each Friday. My hope is that it will provide them with some motivation to read scripture. I have enjoyed meditating on the Psalms, and I look forward to taking the next few years to get through them all! I decided it might be worthwhile to post the weekly devos here, so if you happen to read this, I pray it is helpful. Enjoy.
