When I made this list, I put Henri Nouwen’s small book on Christian leadership and service at #19. It was the only Nouwen book on my list. Now that I am here and writing about it, I am reconsidering. I’ve read 5-6 books by Nouwen and they are all great.
Maybe I should just title this post: “#19 – Anything by Henri Nouwen!”
If you are someone who works in Christian leadership in any capacity, then definitely both The Wounded Healer and In the Name of Jesus are must-reads. On the other hand, there is so much value and depth in The Return of the Prodigal Son and Life of the Beloved: Spiritual Living in a Secular World. He even wrote a book called The Spirituality of Fundraising which we require all our new campus ministers, who have to raise their own salary, to read.
Any work by Nouwen is worth your time. About a month ago there was a sale on a box-set of six Nouwen books for Kindle, so I am anticipating diving into more of his fantastic reflections on life and faith in the future. You can’t go wrong with Nouwen!
